No release yet, but a pretty important update. It includes an update to the character sheet for the first time in years!
This version includes the following changes:
- Added the Novice Track and Novice profession. Novices are luckier and have access to a few new special Novice Actions. This new rule accomplishes a few things I’ve been meaning to implement since forever:
- It makes it so new characters can contribute something when playing alongside more experienced characters.
- It adds a cap to advancement, which should make very long campaigns more manageable.
- It makes luck a core part of the game.
- It adds a devil’s bargain mechanic (Fumble Through) which becomes less useful the more competent characters become, which was always the issue when trying to add such a mechanic previously.
- Added a bonus option during character creation, which allows each character to pick a religion or ability. This replaces the Worshipping option as part of Step 3 (which didn’t work with the new Novice Track rules).
- Added an optional rule for generational play. This has been a thing I’ve been meaning to incorporate for quite a while now, but it required some kind of cap on advancement. With the new Novice rules, it can finally be implemented.
- Added some guidelines for playing characters with disabilities.
- Removed the optional Beginner’s Luck and extra character creation stuff, since both have been incorporated into the default rules.
Coming soon:
- Release? At this rate, probably not.
