Fire from the Ashes is a fan-made custom expansion for the Lord of the Rings Living Card Game. It requires the core set to play and should ideally be played with as many other expansions as possible to get the most complete experience.

The player cards in the custom expansion are designed to fill holes in the existing card pool and to introduce new archetypes. We wanted to create cards of roughly the same power level of the original game. The goal was to expand the card pool, not to replace it.

Most of the cards in the expansion use art which has previously been featured on official cards. This ensures that the cards match the look and feel of the core game and allows certain enemies to start a new life on the side of good.

The encounter sets mostly consist of (re-imagined) existing cards. We love the core gameplay of the game, and by using classic enemies in new contexts, we hope to showcase how interesting the base game can be without all the various gimmicks introduced throughout the years.

The adventure packs can be faced individually, but are designed to be combinable into a single big encounter set (called The Big Adventure) for a truly unique and infinitely replayable adventure. They should be challenging but not impossible when faced with thematic decks, which means they will fold somewhat easily to power-maximised decks (except for maybe AP6). Don’t try to pull out all the stops and instead focus on making thematic and coherent decks. You should be losing more often than you’re winning if you want to keep the game exciting!

Since The Big Adventure can be faced multiple times in quick succession, you can also build a collection of thematic decks and randomly decide which deck(s) to use. Having to split cards between multiple decks can also help keep the power level in check. Put Steward of Gondor in one of your Gondor decks and figure out how to build without it for your other decks! We as the designers have a total of 45(!) different thematic decks, all be it using multiples of the core set and some of the expansions (as well as FFTA of course). There are many cards to work with, try to use as many as possible!
